Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race 2023: A Run for a Cause, Contributes Over MVR 600,000 to Child Protection NGOs

In a remarkable display of community spirit and social responsibility, the Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race (DMRR) 2023 has contributed a substantial MVR 635,000 to NGOs working tirelessly to protect and support children. The annual run, which stands as the largest in the Maldives, once again took up the mantle of advocating for child protection, fostering a platform for NGOs to raise funds and amplify awareness on initiatives safeguarding children's well-being.
Collaborating with 12 NGOs committed to various aspects of child protection, from promoting inclusion to preventing abuse, DMRR provided participants with the opportunity to nominate an NGO of their choice during registration. A special grant of MVR 200,000 from Dhiraagu was distributed among the top five nominated NGOs, and an additional MVR 100 from each runner's registration, along with proceeds from special bib number sales, was awarded to all 12 partner NGOs. The collective contribution amounted to a noteworthy MVR 635,000.
The top five NGOs, Cancer Society of Maldives, ARC – Advocating the Rights of Children, Maldives Autism Association, Tiny Hearts of Maldives, and Maldives Thalassaemia Society, received special recognition for garnering the most nominations.
Expressing hopes that this financial boost would catalyze the NGOs' initiatives, especially those centered on protecting children across the country, Dhiraagu underlined the importance of collective efforts in fostering a safer and more secure environment for children.
DMRR's commitment to social causes extends beyond the race track, emphasizing the company's dedication to community welfare. The event holds a distinguished position as the first and only international run in the Maldives, listed in the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) World Running calendar, featuring a World Athletics-certified race route.
Looking ahead, Dhiraagu has announced the date for next year's Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race, scheduled for October 25, 2024. The announcement sets the stage for another impactful event that not only celebrates athleticism but also continues to champion causes crucial to the well-being of the community, particularly the protection of children.
