In a dazzling ceremony at Dhiraagu's Head Office, the champions of the Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race (DMRR) 2023 were lauded, echoing applause for their remarkable feats. The evening also served as a tribute to the pacers whose efforts were pivotal in ensuring the event's success.
A total of 39 prizes were bestowed upon 31 winners, spanning diverse categories including Half Marathon, 10K, 5K Open, 5K School – Above 13, and 5K – School Under 13. The winners, comprising 14 local runners, 5 international participants, and 12 students, received accolades for their outstanding performances.
The champions of the Half Marathon category were presented with a substantial cash prize of MVR 25,000, with MVR 15,000 and MVR 10,000 for the first and second runners-up, respectively. Similar rewards were extended to winners in the 10K and 5K Open categories. The 5K School categories received special gift vouchers.
Dhiraagu's CEO & MD, Ismail Rasheed, extended his heartfelt congratulations to the winners, emphasizing the event's dual significance as both a sought-after running spectacle and a key fundraising initiative. The proceeds from the registration and bib number sales amounted to an impressive MVR 635,000, which was generously distributed among 12 DMRR-endorsed NGOs.
The top five NGOs nominated by the runners received MVR 76,250 each, constituting a part of the MVR 200,000 donation by Dhiraagu. Additionally, the remaining seven NGOs were allocated MVR 36,250 each, empowering them to kickstart their initiatives for child protection.
This year's DMRR, held on October 27, witnessed over 4,000 registered participants from 27 nationalities, including students from 31 schools. The vibrant event, recognized by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) World Running calendar, underlined its global stature with a World Athletics-certified race route.
Dhiraagu took the opportunity to announce the date for the next year's DMRR, scheduled for October 25, 2024, further cementing its commitment to fostering a culture of health and community engagement.
In celebration of both individual triumphs and collective community support, the DMRR 2023 ceremony encapsulated Dhiraagu's dedication to promoting wellness and championing the cause of child protection, reinforcing the event's status as a beacon of unity and goodwill in the Maldives.
