In a groundbreaking move, SpaceX's Starlink has introduced satellite internet services in the Maldives, making it the pioneer in South Asia to access Starlink's cutting-edge connectivity.
Residents can select from four service plans, with the household package providing speeds of up to 200 Mbps at a monthly cost of approximately MVR 1,000. To avail the service, customers must connect to the network and install a satellite dish kit priced at MVR 10,000.
Apart from residential offerings, Starlink extends its services to businesses, vehicles, and frequent travelers, catering to diverse connectivity needs.
Minister of Technology Aminath Shauna highlighted on social media that Starlink's arrival promises unique solutions for the Maldives, positioning it as the fourth licensed internet service provider in the country. This move aligns with Starlink's global presence, operational in over 60 countries, and underscores the island nation's commitment to advancing connectivity in both urban and maritime areas.
