Adh. Kunburdu Beach Protection Project Successfully Shields Village Coastline

The Ministry of National Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure has successfully concluded the Adh. Kunburdu Beach Protection Project, a vital initiative for the picturesque village. With a population of 640, Kunburdu, nestled by a beautiful lake, is home to hardworking individuals mainly employed in resorts and forestry.
Erosion has long been a concern for Kunburdu's residents, affecting not only their livelihoods but also the aesthetic appeal of the village shoreline. The completion of this beach protection project marks a significant triumph, safeguarding the coast from further erosion and restoring its natural charm.
This achievement is a source of great joy and relief for the community, who have endured this challenge for an extended period. The project, valued at MVR 21.14 million, involved dredging 24,000 cubic meters of land, creating a 430-cubic-meter port, and fortifying the coastline with large stone revetments and geobags, spanning 280 meters.
Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), established in 1980, played a pivotal role in realizing this project. Over the past 42 years, MTCC has been instrumental in constructing vital infrastructure and bolstering social resources across various regions of the country. This endeavor stands as a testament to MTCC's commitment to the nation's progress and development journey.
