Maafushi Council Initiates Allocation of 84 Additional Land Plots

The Maafushi Council in Kaafu Atoll has embarked on a new phase of land allocation, earmarking an additional 84 plots. Council President, Hassan Sobah, explained that these allocations will be facilitated through adjustments in the existing land use plan.
In March, it was revealed that 308 plots, each spanning 2,000 square feet, were slated for residential development on the reclaimed land in Maafushi. The council underscores its commitment to prioritizing island residents in the allocation process, particularly in light of the island's thriving guesthouse business. In response to community needs, the council modified regulations in April to enhance residents' opportunities to acquire land.
Sobah affirmed his intent to seek approval from the planning ministry for finalizing changes in the land use plan. This initiative builds on the government's acquisition of 25 hectares of land on the southern side of Maafushi lagoon in 2021, entrusted to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC). A request has been made to connect this newly acquired land with the existing area, further enhancing the island's developmental potential.
