During the 39th General Assembly of Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), the Secretary General of Maldives Olympics Committee, Mr. Ahmed Marzooq, has been presented with the OCA’s ‘Award of Merit’. At the event held at Muscat, Oman on 16th of December, the award was handed over to him by the President of Olympic Council of Asia, Sheikh Ahmad Fahad Al-Sabah.
‘Award of Merit’ by OCA honors Mr. Marzooq’s exceptional services to the sports sector of Asia within the past 11 years. He has been the Secretary General of Maldives Olympic Committee since 2009 and is a long-standing member of the OCA’s Media Committee.
Mr. Marzooq who dreams of hosting international standard games in the Maldives is the son renowned local referee, the late Mr. Hussain Didi. Prior to assuming his position as the Secretary General of Maldives Olympic Committee, he was a successful football player having represented the nation in Under-16, U-19 and U-23 levels and has also been a football coach.
Some of his notable contributions to the local sports sector includes of leading training programs for Maldivian athletes, paving opportunities for numerous Maldivian athletes and sports teams to join training sessions abroad.
He is the second local to have ever received this honor; the first being Mr. Ibrahim Ismail, former President of Maldives Olympics Committee.
