N. Maalhendhoo Set for Coastal Transformation: MVR 32.34 Million Project Mobilized

A wave of anticipation and excitement washed over the picturesque island of N. Maalhendhoo as a significant coastal development project, valued at MVR 32.34 million, was officially mobilized on September 8, 2023.

This ambitious endeavor, undertaken by skilled teams, marks a new chapter in the island's coastal infrastructure. The comprehensive scope of work includes extensive harbor basin dredging operations, spanning an impressive 9,735 cubic meters, aimed at enhancing navigation and ensuring the safety of vessels.

To fortify the coastline against the elements, a series of structures will be erected, including a 73-meter groyne and a 386-meter revetment. An innovative addition to the coastal defenses is a 175-unit geobag revetment, showcasing modern engineering techniques aimed at bolstering the island's resilience to coastal erosion.

The project's scope further extends to the construction of vital amenities such as a 47-meter quay wall, a 30-meter by 4-meter bridge, and a jetty that will serve as a gateway to the island. Additionally, 928 square meters of pavement will be laid to ensure safe and convenient access for both residents and visitors.

Safety and navigation will be enhanced through the installation of harbor lights and mooring buoys, further solidifying N. Maalhendhoo's position as a maritime hub in the region.

This transformative project, initiated with an eye toward enhancing coastal protection and boosting connectivity, is a testament to the Maldivian government's commitment to the sustainable development of its islands. As the construction teams embark on this journey of coastal transformation, the residents of N. Maalhendhoo can look forward to a safer, more connected, and economically vibrant future.
