Maldives Ports Clear Nearly 5,000 Containers of Fresh Goods in August

In a vital feat for the nation's supply chain, the Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) achieved the successful clearance of 4,837 containers filled with perishable goods in the month of August. This significant accomplishment underscores the pivotal role played by MPL in ensuring the timely arrival and distribution of essential commodities to the Maldivian populace.
Of these cleared containers, 2,808 were 20-foot containers, while 2,029 were 40-foot containers, illustrating the diverse range of goods imported to meet the country's needs.

According to MPL statistics, an average of 154 containers of perishable goods were cleared daily in August, marking a slight decrease of five percent compared to the previous month of July, when the daily average stood at 164 containers.
The imported quantity of perishable goods encompassed a variety of essentials:

  • Bananas: 9,748
  • Pumpkin: 3,271
  • Pineapple: 7,482
  • Cabbage: 12,551
  • Onions: 45,061
  • Garlic: 21,362
  • Tomatoes: 11,946
  • Eggs: 57,609

Comparatively, the volume of perishable goods imported in August experienced a marginal decrease when juxtaposed with July. Imports of pineapple and tomatoes saw a four percent dip, garlic imports fell by six percent, while eggs and onions experienced two and 15 percent decreases, respectively.
During the month of August, 16 container ships and 19 conventional ships arrived in the Maldives, bearing these essential perishable goods. These efforts by MPL play an instrumental role in ensuring the nation's access to fresh and necessary commodities, showcasing their commitment to keeping the Maldives well supplied and supported.
