For the fifth consecutive year, the most prestigious travel industry awards focused on the South Asia Region, South Asian Travel Awards (SATA), was held virtually, yesterday. Since 2016, SATA has been honoring stellar organizations and individuals in a wide array of categories.
This year, the flag carrier of Maldives, Maldivian Aero has snatched the title ‘Leading Tourist Transport Provider’ at the event. The award was received on behalf of Maldivian Aero by Deputy Managing Director of Island Aviation Services Limited, Ms. Aishath Jennifer. In addressing the audience during the event, the Deputy Managing Director highlighted that the year has been extremely challenging for the industry as a whole due the coronavirus pandemic and winning the title is a testament of the confidence industry partners and customers have in services provided by the airline.
Maldivian Aero is the leading domestic carrier in the country carries out both international and domestic operations. They are also the only airline which offers both seaplane and wheel-based flights.
In 2020, a total of 1000 parties from the countries; Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Maldives and Sri Lanka, competed for awards in 52 categories. The winners were determined by evaluation of the judges and online votes; 60% of the weight from the judges and the remaining 40% from online voting.
