Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has charted a new milestone in its journey of excellence by introducing its inaugural Air Traffic Control (ATC) Radar Control Training, Area Control Surveillance Course (ICAO 054), on July 30, 2023. Embarking on an 8-week journey, this comprehensive program is set to bolster the capabilities of air traffic control professionals, reinforcing the company's commitment to world-class air navigation services.

Under the skillful guidance of lead instructor Richard Thomas Smith from Global ATS / UK, alongside MACL's esteemed instructors Mohmed Athuhar and Ahmed Nazeer, this training initiative commenced with a cohort of six dedicated participants. The program is scheduled to conclude on September 21, 2023, after which these skilled professionals will be equipped to elevate the realm of air traffic control in the Maldives.

As the authority responsible for air navigation services across all Maldivian airports, MACL places paramount importance on the continuous development of its air traffic control personnel. The ATC Radar Control Training underscores MACL's unwavering commitment to delivering top-notch training and services to its esteemed customers and stakeholders.

This move builds upon MACL's previous strides in enhancing its air traffic control capacities. Notably, in 2021, the company inaugurated the Maldives' first Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower simulator at Velana International Airport (VIA), an instrumental tool in training air traffic control officers. This sophisticated simulator has been pivotal in honing the skills of controllers, further amplifying their efficiency. Moreover, 2023 saw MACL launch two Air Traffic Control License Courses, concurrently conducting the Area Control Procedural Course (ICAO 055) and the Approach Control Procedural Course (ICAO 053). This underscored MACL's commitment to cultivating a highly skilled and proficient workforce.

The commencement of the 1st ATC Radar Control Training marks a significant stride forward, reinforcing MACL's unwavering pursuit of excellence in aviation services. The company's dedication to investing in cutting-edge training programs and advanced facilities solidifies its position as a pioneering provider of air navigation services in the region. With each training initiative, MACL propels itself closer to its vision of a more efficient, safe, and innovative aviation landscape for the Maldives and beyond.
