MTCC's Reclamation Venture in Mathiveri: Paving the Way for Growth

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) embarks on an ambitious endeavor, partnering with the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure, to reshape the future of Mathiveri Island in the Alifu Alifu Atoll. The newly initiated reclamation project carries the promise of catalyzing tourism growth and infrastructure advancement in this vibrant community.

In a significant development, MTCC's CEO Adam Azim and the Director General of the Planning Ministry, Fathimath Shaana Farooq, have inked an agreement to undertake a comprehensive transformation of Mathiveri Island's landscape. The core objectives of the project encompass a meticulous sand search survey, the reclamation of 26.50 hectares of land, and the construction of vital infrastructural elements.

The allocated USD 9.3 million investment underscores the strategic significance of Mathiveri Island's evolution. MTCC's multifaceted role encompasses both the reclamation operations and the construction of essential maritime structures, including a 110m breakwater on the eastern perimeter and a 54m revetment on the western edge of the island.

Mathiveri Island, with its vibrant local tourism industry, accommodating 13 guesthouses, and a resident population of 1,000, holds immense potential for sustainable growth. The augmentation of its land area through reclamation is poised to unlock novel avenues for tourism expansion and infrastructural development. Moreover, the island's recent establishment of a clean water supply and sewerage network lays the foundation for a more comprehensive and holistic tourism experience.

As MTCC's pioneering efforts converge with the island's aspirations, Mathiveri emerges as a beacon of progress in the Maldives archipelago. The reclamation project aligns seamlessly with the government's drive to cultivate a dynamic tourism landscape and bolster local economies. Mathiveri's transformation journey reflects a synergy of innovation and commitment, poised to create enduring prosperity for its residents and offer tourists an enriched Maldivian experience.
