In a momentous step towards enhancing cross-border connections, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has extended its embrace to Maldivians by including the island nation in its list of countries eligible for visitor visas. This announcement, made on 6th August 2023, opens new avenues for Maldivians to explore and experience the riches of Saudi Arabia.
This strategic decision by the Government of Saudi Arabia ushers in an era of accessibility, granting Maldivians the opportunity to obtain visitor visas through two streamlined avenues: the e-visa application process and the visa on arrival option.
For those who prefer the digital route, the e-visa application beckons. Maldivians can secure a multiple-entry visa, valid for a year from the date of issue, and enjoy stays of up to 90 days per visit. With the e-visa fee of SAR 535 (approximately USD 142.45), both the application fee and essential medical insurance are seamlessly included.
For the spontaneous traveler, the visa on arrival option offers the flexibility of multiple or single entry (subject to Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs guidelines). With a visa fee of SAR 300 (about USD 80) and an additional medical insurance fee of SAR 180 (around USD 48.03), Maldivians can step foot in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia with ease.
This visitor visa caters to a spectrum of purposes – from leisurely tourism and business ventures to heartwarming visits to relatives and friends. However, it's important to note that the visa does not permit wage-based employment or performing Umrah during Hajj.
This decision, an embodiment of Saudi Arabia's commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, underscores the significance of the Maldives in the Kingdom's priorities. As the doors of Saudi Arabia open wider for Maldivians, this monumental step is a testament to the enduring friendship between the two nations, destined to scale new heights of cooperation and camaraderie.
