Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan Concludes His Official Visit to Maldives

On Sunday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, His Excellency Hayashi Yoshimasa concluded his two-day official visit to the Maldives. During his brief visit, Minister Hayashi held bilateral discussions with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives and took part in a formal lunch hosted by Minister Shahid in his honour. In addition to this, Minster Hayashi also paid a call to the Minister of Defence, Uza. Mariya Ahmed Didi over the course of the two days.

As part of the visit, both Foreign Ministers presided over and witnessed the Exchange of Notes under the Project for Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS) and the Exchange of Notes for the exemption of visa requirements for Diplomatic and Official passports for a duration of 90 days. Moreover, the Japanese Minister also attended a Joint Handover Ceremony of a Fireboat and ICT Equipment for the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF).

Before concluding the visit, Minister Hayashi visited Kalaafaanu School which was constructed under the generous assistance provided by the Government of Japan and toured the Seawall Tetrapod Monument, given to the Maldives as a token of friendship and cooperation from Japan.

During Minister Hayashi’s departure, he was seen off at the Velana International Airport by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Khaleel along with other senior government officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
