President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih is currently on an official visit to Vaavu Atoll. During his visit, he commended the successful completion of the island coastal protection project in V. Felidhoo and inaugurated the newly established powerhouse on V. Thinadhoo island. Both projects were initiated under the current administration with the aim of resolving the challenges faced by the resident island populations in their respective islands.
The newly inaugurated 1.3-megawatt powerhouse on Thinadhoo is remotely situated away from the residential and tourist areas and will generate reliable and sustainable energy for the residents of the islands. The coastal protection project executed on Fulidhoo was contracted to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC). The company has since then completed the project with seawalls and groynes installed to safeguard the island from the adverse effects of climate change and rising sea levels.
Under the President’s instruction, the administration has taken remarkable strides to bring equitable development to all inhabited islands of the Maldives. One of the central themes of this idea is enhancing the standard and quality of life of all citizens and empowering them to lead dignified lives.
