Maldives and India Exchange Memorandums of Understanding

On Tuesday, significant memorandums of understanding (MoUs) were exchanged between Maldives and India for several diverse development assistance for our nation. The MoU exchange ceremony was taken place during Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid’s official visit to India. The signing ceremony was presided by the Minister of External Affairs of India, Dr. S. Jaishankar and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives, Abdulla Shahid.

Nine MoUs were exchanged between the government of the Maldives and the government of India by the High Commissioner of Maldives to India, Ibrahim Shaheeb and the High Commissioner of India to the Maldives, Munu Mahawar. These MoUs mainly focused on implementing socio-development projects across the Maldives as facilitated under the High Impact Community Development Project (HICDP) scheme. Grant funding provided by the Government of India will be used to fund these projects.

MoUs were exchanged for the following causes:
-Development of Mental Health Unit at R. Ungoofaaru Hospital
-Development of Volley Court in Sh. Kanditheemu
-Establishment of Geydhoshu Mas Plant in M. Dhiggaru
-Procurement of Furniture and Equipment for Sh. Foakaidhoo Community Centre
-School Digitalization Project in Th. Vilufushi
-Upgrading F. Nilandhoo’s Hospital
-Upgrading School Computer Lab
-Utheemu Palace Roof Preservation & Development of Palace Surroundings Project
-School Digitalization Project in Th. Vilufushi
-Installation of Street Lights in Ga. Kondey
 
Minister Shahid also met with the Minister of External Affairs of India, Dr. S. Jaishankar. During the meeting, the two ministers talked about strengthening the Maldives-India partnership by intensifying development cooperation and magnifying collaboration to preserve cohesion and peace between both countries.
