On Wednesday, Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) contributed a generous donation of MVR 100,000 to the Cancer Society of Maldives (CSM). This donation aims to enhance the management and maintenance of data collected by CSM by supporting the development of a cancer-screening application and database.
The donation cheque was handed over to the Treasurer of CSM, Neena Mansoor by the Managing Director & CEO of MACL, Mahjoob Shujau during a special ceremony held at the MACL Corporate Office yesterday. In line with MACL’s corporate social responsibility initiatives, this donation will seek to improve cancer screening programs conducted by CSM. Through this, it reaffirms MACL’s commitment to helping the community and demonstrates the company’s dedication to advancing the country’s health sector.
At the moment, all cancer screenings are carried out using physical forms, and the data acquired is managed manually. As such, the development of the new application will bring a transformative change to the process, enabling more efficient and confidential screening to take place, while keeping a coherent and up-to-date set of records for effective follow-ups and aftercare of patients. Therefore, the screening application will allow CSM to go paperless when conducting screening programs, allow real-time analysis to occur, and store a vast collection of information for studies and research purposes.
Up till now, The Cancer Society of Maldives has screened more than 20,900 people for various types of cancer including breast cancer, oral cancer, and cervical cancer among others. This year, CSM is expanding its cancer screening efforts to prostate and colorectal cancer as well, increasing the scope of its services and reaching a wider population. Hence, MACL’s donation to CSM will impactfully contribute to society’s efforts to raise awareness, provide screening and enhance the overall management of cancer-related data.
