On Sunday, the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure contracted Maldives Transport & Contracting Company (MTCC) to develop swimming areas in three islands of Shaviyani Atoll. The three islands are Feydhoo, Feevah and Fokaidhoo.
At a signing ceremony held at the Ministry, the contract agreement was signed between Director General Fathmath Shaana Farooq and the COO of MTCC, Shahid Hussain. The project was awarded to MTCC under a design and build basis at a value of MVR 16.6 million. The entire project is scheduled to be completed within 7 months.
As part of the Fokaidhoo swimming area project, 2730cbm of sand will be removed, and 40m of groin will be laid together with a 101.56m outer canal. At Feevah island, 3575cbm of sand will be taken, 50m of groin laid out and a 97m outer ditch will further deepen the swimming area. In Feydhoo, the scope of the swimming area project extends to dredging 2,106cbm of sand, laying out 50m groin and 62m outer ditch.
