The Hanimaadhoo Island Council has announced the lease of 12 land plots from the Hanimaadhoo Tourism Zone. 4 land plots measuring 10,000 square feet will be let for a period of 40 years while 8 plots measuring 5000 square feet will be leased for a period of 30 years for tourism-related purposes.
Interested bidders are welcome to attend an information session held at the Hanimaadhoo Council office on July 24 before the bidding process starts on 6 August. The council has firmly stated that bids submitted without attending the information session or post the deadline will not be considered. Hanimaadhoo Island is expected to become a tourism hub in the near future with intriguing development projects such as Hanimaadhoo International Airport on the way.
The administration has also been working towards boosting arrival numbers from the North of Maldives, by introducing more opportunities for resort development, and guesthouse and city hotel establishments. However, the most daunting challenge to the expansion of tourism in the North happens to be the lack of air connectivity and high airfare rates. To resolve this problem, the government has started heavily investing in the transportation infrastructure of the region.
Once the airport expansion project is completed it would lead to an increase in tourism activity in the region with the wide establishment of tourism facilities such as guesthouses and city hotels. Moreover, it would create hundreds of job opportunities in the region, ultimately making the northern atolls an economic hub in the future.
