State Trading Organization (STO) has signed with Hulhumale’ Hospital to further develop the hospital’s facilities. The agreement was signed on Wednesday between the Managing Director of STO, Abdulla Saeed and the CEO of Hulhumale’ Hospital, Maria Saeed during a ceremony held at the STO Head Office.
Under this development agreement, STO will assist the hospital to expand its Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), equipping it with contemporary medical resources. At the moment, the hospital’s ICU facilities are limited to 17 beds, which is facing growing issues due to the increasing resident population in Hulhumale. Once this project is completed the ICU bed capacity will be upgraded to 24, which is expected to resolve the current problems faced by lack of space.
In addition to the improvements brought to the ICU and NICU services, STO will also undertake the establishment of five additional operating theatres. This includes theatres designated for ophthalmic and general surgeries as well as an orthopedic theatre. The hospital currently occupies one operation theatre and the rising demand has proven to have significant hurdles to the conduction of daily operations.
STO has previously implemented a similar project in Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital where it successfully established the Central Sterilization Department. Once this project is completed in Hulhumale’ Hospital, it will greatly benefit the resident population in the city, providing a wide-ranging suite of services under one platform.
