Maldives Partakes in 53rd Session of the UN Human Rights Council

On Monday, the 53rd Session of the UN Human Rights Council began in Geneva, Switzerland. The session is being held from 19 June 2023 to 14 July 2023. The Maldives delegation for the 53rd Session of the Human Rights Council is led by His Excellency Dr. Asim Ahmed, Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the United Nations Offices at Geneva.

During the Session, the Maldives will deliver national statements under various agenda items, in line with the Government’s key policies and priorities. Additionally, the Maldives delegation will also give a joint statement for the Annual Panel on Adverse Impacts of Climate Change on behalf of a group of Small Island Developing States (SIDS) based in Geneva. Likewise, the Maldives and a cross-regional core group will together present a resolution extending the mandate of Special Rapporteur on the Independence of Judges and Lawyers.

Apart from the delegation head, the Maldives delegation will include Ms. Hawla Ahmed Didi, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the United Nations Offices at Geneva, Mr. Hassan Hussain Shihab, Counsellor of the Maldives Mission to the United Nations Offices at Geneva, Ms. Aminath Shifaya Ibrahim, Counsellor of the Maldives Mission to the United Nations Offices at Geneva, Ms. Maryam Fathika Fayaz, Second Secretary of the Maldives Mission to the United Nations Offices at Geneva and Ms. Nafha Hassan, Third Secretary of the Maldives Mission to the United Nations Offices at Geneva.
