Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA), has today, opened a Collection Centre of the authority at the island of Muli in Meemu Atoll. A special ceremony was held on the occasion in which it was inaugurated by the President of Meemu Atoll Council, Sheikh Yoosuf Sidhgee.
According to MIRA, all the services provided in the Authority’s Male’ Branch will be offered to taxpayers at the Muli Collection Centre including business registrations, collection of all types of taxes and other monies payable to the Authority and acceptance of financial statements. Apart from this, the staff at the Collection Centre will always be available to guide persons inquiring regarding tax related matters.
The establishment of this Collection Centre will not only benefit the residents of Muli but also all other residents of the atoll marking this as a step-forward for MIRA in reaching their goal of providing ease of access to their services in the geographically separated islands of Maldives.
Presently, Maldives Inland Revenue Authority operates 18 offices in 17 atolls.
During the month of November, MIRA collected a total of MVR 461.49 million as revenue which is a decrease by 59.9 percent compared to last year. The decrease is attributed to the impact of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic on the tourism industry of Maldives, which contributes to two-thirds of the country's GDP.
