Dhiraagu has extended support to the team representing the Maldives at the upcoming Special Olympic World Games 2023 held in Berlin, Germany. Dhiraagu is dedicated to providing community-based assistance to support children, empower young people and inclusive communities. In line with this commitment, the company has contributed jerseys and travel kits to the team.
The Special Olympics World Games is the largest inclusive sports event hosted worldwide. The games provide a valuable opportunity for thousands of athletes with intellectual disabilities to compete together in different sports. In this year’s games, the Maldives team will be participating in competitive running and badminton.
Last Thursday, a designated ceremony took place at the Maldives National Sports Institute to hand over the jerseys and kits. Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment, H.E Ahmed Mahloof presented the competition jerseys to the athletes while Dhiraagu’s Chief Commercial Officer, Ali Riyaz handed the travel jerseys and kits.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Mahloof underscored the role played by the establishment of the Special Olympics Maldives in promoting inclusivity in sports. He also thanked Dhiraagu for the company's contribution to the team.
“We would like to extend a special thank you to Dhiraagu for their contribution to the team and their support over the years as well. In particular, I would like to note and applaud the Dhiraagu Special Sports Festival which was the starting point for many of our athletes to gain the confidence to play and participate in sports over the years,” remarked Ibrahim Rameez, Technical and Sports Director of Special Olympic Maldives.
“Empowering inclusive communities is an important part of our CSR programme and as such, we are happy to provide support to this year’s Special Olympic World Games team from the Maldives. We are all very proud of the team and wish them great success in all their games,” stated Ali Riyaz, Chief Commercial Officer at Dhiraagu.
