On Monday, the Maldives and the United States of America (USA) signed the 10th amendment to the Development Objective Grant Agreement (DOAG) during a special ceremony held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Maldives. The amendment marks a significant milestone in the ongoing partnership between the Maldives and the USA.
The tenth amendment was signed on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Maldives by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Ahmed Khaleel. The Government of the United States of America was represented at the signing event by USAID Mission Director, Garbiel Grau.
The DOAG is a landmark development cooperation agreement signed between both countries on 12 March 2019. Since its signing, there have been gradual increments in the funding allocated, and the conclusion of the 10th amendment will allow the US Government to commit an additional USD 7.2 million to the Maldives. The funds will be used to consolidate the technical capacity of the Maldives in managing public finances and will help bolster the country’s resilience to economic and democratic governance.
The signing of the 10th amendment will increase the total value of funding facilitated under the DOAG to USD 36.1 million. The signing ceremony was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the USAID Mission to the Maldives.
