The President Delivers Statement Commemorating World Environment Day

On the occasion of World Environment Day, observed annually on June 5th, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih delivered a national statement. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the global event as well.

Speaking in the message, the President highlighted the influence of anthropological actions on the global environment and natural systems. He noted that in current times, our natural environment and ecological systems are suffering from unprecedented levels of loss and degradation and expressed concern about these life-threatening damages that keep on escalating and intensifying each year. In this way, the President also stated that they pose a significant risk to the survival of humanity as well.

During the statement, the President emphasized the shared responsibility of individuals in protecting the environment from disorder and degradation. On this note, he underscored the need to focus on plastic products, particularly due to their prominent environmental threat which affects communities both at home and abroad. Moreover, President Solih also shed light on the importance of incorporating environmental conservation into our daily lives in light of current global and environmental circumstances.

Before concluding his statement, the President urged the public to take a proactive stance on environmentally harmful plastic products. He advised individuals of all age groups to phase out and eliminate the use of plastic and embrace sustainable alternatives.
