The first public company to be established in the Maldives, Maldives Transport and Contracting Company Plc (MTCC), boasts being the leading marine and land transport provider in addition to being the leading civil and marine constructor in the country.
Yesterday, MTCC, was pleased to announce the completion of one their projects; the Harbor Expansion Project of Kulhudhuffishi in Haa Dhaalu Atoll. This project was contracted to them by the Ministry of National Planning and Infrastructure on 12th December 2018. The project was mobilized on 27th December 2019 and was fully completed on 10th December 2020. Its expenditure totaled up to MVR 137.6 million.
Work under this project included of building separate harbors for travelers and for cargo, a special jetty for small vessels, construction of a ramp for cargo, construction of a ferry terminal, building a ticket counter for the ferry operator company, construct buildings for offices, retail stores, convenience store, a café’, a special area for pregnant women, and a prayer room. Apart from this, as part of this project, a fish market, a fish cuttings area, toilets and bathrooms for fishermen, a store and a cash counter at the site was also built. Lastly, a water front zone was also developed for small vessels and water sports.
Since their inception in 1980, MTCC has played a major role in the infrastructural development of Maldives. Currently, the company is simultaneously involved in various marine and civil construction projects in all corners of the nation.
