On Monday, two newly appointed Ambassadors presented their letter of credence to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. The two Ambassadors were the Ambassador of the Czech Republic to the Republic of Maldives, Her Excellency Dr Eliška Žigová and the Ambassador of Hungary to the Republic of Maldives, His Excellency István Szabó. The ceremony took place at the President’s Office.
Following the credential-presenting ceremony, the President met with each Ambassador and congratulated them on their appointment. During the meeting with the Czech Ambassador, President Solih noted that this year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. In this regard, he discussed ways to further strengthen relations and cooperation between both sides.
Speaking further, the President informed the Czech Ambassador of the numerous investment opportunities in the Maldives across various sectors and invited Czech investors to explore avenues of foreign investment. The Ambassador and the President also discussed increasing cooperation in different fields such as climate change, tourism, health, environment and higher education. The meeting concluded with both parties expressing hope to enhance bilateral ties in all areas of mutual interest.
At the meeting with the Hungarian Ambassador, the President stated that this week will mark the 48th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral relations between the Maldives and Hungary. On this note, he added that both countries have made good strides in fostering closer ties, particularly over the last two years through high-level visits.
Ambassador Szabó and the President also spoke on topics of shared interest including higher education, sports, tourism and economic cooperation. The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to strengthening the friendship and cooperation between Maldives and Hungary.
