The Malaysian High Commissioner Presents Credentials to the President

On Monday, the newly appointed High Commissioner of Malaysia to the Republic of Maldives, His Excellency Badli Hisham Bin Adam presented his credentials to the President of Maldives, H.E. Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. The ceremony took place at the President’s Office on 22nd May 2023.

During the meeting that followed, the President congratulated the High Commissioner on his appointment and conveyed greetings and best wishes to H.E. Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the Prime Minister of Malaysia as well as the government and people of the country. Speaking further, President Solih regarded Malaysia as a prominent regional partner and close friend of the Maldives for the last 55 years and noted the dynamic people-to-people exchanges between the countries that match the warmth of the close diplomatic ties.

At the meeting, High Commissioner Badli Hisham discussed ways to strengthen economic ties between both sides and emphasized the upcoming Double Tax Avoidance Agreement. On this note, the President also referred to the Mutual Recognition Agreement that was recently realized between both countries regarding the recognition of driving licenses, which will pave way for easy mobility for Maldivians residing in Malaysia and vice versa.

Additionally, the President expressed his appreciation to the Malaysian government for its assistance in the administration’s human resources development initiatives facilitated through the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Program. President Solih also stated that the Maldives is eager to boost the Malaysian market for tourism and is currently collaborating with Malaysian counterparts to increase the number of flights between both destinations.

Before concluding the meeting, the President and the High Commissioner reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the bilateral relations between the two countries in areas of mutual interest. The Maldives and Malaysia initially established diplomatic ties in 1968.
