Maldives and Rwanda Sign Visa Waiver Agreement

Last Friday, the Government of the Republic of Maldives and the Government of the Republic of Rwanda signed an agreement on mutual exemption of visa requirements. With this agreement, nationals of both countries will be exempted from visas for single and multiple entry, exit and transit for a period of 30 days.

The mutual visa exemption agreement was signed on behalf of the Government of Maldives by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Abdulla Shahid. The Government of Rwanda was represented by His Excellency Vincent Biruta, Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Rwanda. The signing ceremony took place in London, UK.

Following the signing ceremony, Minister Shahid expressed his thanks to the Government of Rwanda for its commitment towards strengthening the existing bilateral relations between the two countries. Additionally, he conveyed hope that the signing of this agreement will open new avenues of engagement and increase people-to-people contact between both sides. During the discussions, the Foreign Minister of Rwanda also expressed keen eagerness in consolidating ties with the Maldives.

The Maldives has also recently signed visa waiver agreements with the Republic of Burundi and Cambodia as well.
