The Maldives and Togo Establish Diplomatic Relations

On May 3rd, the Republic of Maldives and the Togolese Republic announced the establishment of formal diplomatic relations between the two countries. The Joint Communiqué which formalized diplomatic relations was signed by representatives of both governments. The Togolese Republic is a country situated in West Africa with a population of approximately 8 million people.

On behalf of the Government of Maldives, the Joint Communiqué was signed by Her Excellency Thilmeeza Hussain, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Maldives to the United Nations. The Togolese Republic was represented by His Excellency, Koffi Akakpo, Chargé d'Affaires, a.i. of the Permanent Mission of Togo to the United Nations.

Forging new meaningful partnerships with countries that respect and value friendship is a key priority area of the foreign policy practised by the current administration. Establishing diplomatic relations with Togo enables both countries to increase bilateral and multilateral cooperation to achieve shared goals in areas of mutual interest. Togo is the 184th country to establish diplomatic relations with the Maldives.
