MPL Seeks Party To Construct A Deep-Sea Bulk Port On Thilafushi Island

Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) is seeking a contractor party to construct a bulk port on Thilafushi island in Kaafu Atoll. As such, MPL has opened the opportunity for interested companies to submit their Expression of Interest (EOI) latest by April 26th, 2023.

As part of the project, the contractor is tasked with establishing a deep-sea bulk port on Thilafushi. In line with this, all interested bidders must have past experience in constructing deep-sea commercial ports and possess the essential human resources and financial and technical capacity to conduct the project. Bidders will also be assessed on their ability to undertake and complete contractor-financed engineering, procurement, and construction contracts on time and within the allocated budget.

The scope of the project includes constructing the necessary port infrastructure such as dredging and reclamation as well as other requisites of a deep seaport such as terminal buildings and roadways. The contractor will also have to provide ancillary facilities such as warehouses, utility infrastructure, operation and maintenance and etc for a designated period of time post-completion.

Once this project is completed, Thilafushi Island will house a state-of-the-art, deep sea port with the capacity to handle large bulk cargo and container-carrying vessels. All operations currently taking place at the Male’ Commercial Harbour will then be temporarily relocated to the new port.
