On Tuesday, 12th April 2023 Velana International Airport (VIA) commemorated its 57th anniversary, reflecting on the significant infrastructure developments and service enhancements seen over the years. With an unwavering commitment to better improve airport facilities for passengers and customers, VIA saw several instrumental changes during the course of last year, which have contributed immensely to enhancing operations.
In 2022, VIA commenced operations at the new Code-F Runway and inaugurated the iconic Noovilu Seaplane Terminal. Both of these projects were large-scale infrastructure development initiatives at VIA which have served to play an important role in streamlining airport services. In addition to this, Maldives Airport Company Ltd (MACL) also completed its housing program for its staff and handed over the completed Aero Residence apartments to their owners in 2022. This fulfilled a much-awaited dream for many of its employees.
Upgrading services to the next level, VIA has started providing services from the new VIP building phase 1. Moreover, modification works are currently ongoing at the Terminal as well, which will help improve the arrival and departure experience for guests. The airport management has also taken great strides to develop staff, addressing gaps in technical capacity through different specialized programs.
On the occasion of the 57th anniversary, CEO and MD of MACL, Mahjoob Shujau congratulated the employees on the airport's anniversary and stated that any improvements made to the airport's infrastructure, services, and staff training will improve the service provided to passengers. Mr Mahjoob thanked the airport staff and stakeholders for the airport's 57-year history of progress.
