Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) announced the completion of the Harbour Development Project at Hanimaadhoo Island in Haa Dhaalu Atoll. The project was valued at MVR 65.15 million and will serve as an important gateway to the North of Maldives.
The scope of the Hanimaadhoo harbour development project included new harbour basin dredging operations of a 19,870cbm area, harbour channel dredging operations of 6,525cbm and the construction of a 704m breakwater. As part of the project, MTCC also constructed a 310m quay wall and 90m groyne on the site and undertook the installation of 2,583sqm of paved area.
The establishment of a modern harbour on the island will bring great ease to the residents, especially since the mega-scale project of Hanimaadhoo International Airport is also ongoing at the moment on the island. Once the project is completed it will increase air connectivity to the North, paving for numerous opportunities in tourism and business, making the presence of a state-of-the-art harbour a necessity in coming years. It will also help to streamline the operations of the RTL High-Speed Ferry network in the region.
