The President Delivers Message On World Health Day 2023

Last Friday, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih delivered his message on World Health Day 2023. During his address, he called on all farmers to promote safe agricultural practices, protect the natural environment and adopt organic farming methods to safeguard public health. He also emphasized marine conservation, particularly in the Maldivian waters and linked its importance to ensuring food security in the country.

This year’s World Health Day also coincides with the 75th anniversary of the World Health Organization (WHO). Speaking on this, President Solih reflected on invaluable contributions and assistance provided by WHO to the Maldives over the years and acknowledged its support in promoting the healthcare sector of the country since the beginning. In this regard, the President conveyed his sincere gratitude to WHO on behalf of the government and the people of the Maldives.

Highlighting the theme for World Health Day 2023: Health for All, President Solih related its significance to enhancing public health and recognized the need to further widen the public health sector of the Maldives. On this note, he stated that the most noteworthy achievements in healthcare have been made through the country’s public health services.

Shedding light on lifestyle trends among Maldivians, the President stressed the increasing prevalence of non-communicable diseases in the society and its threatening effects on the health and well-being of people. Before concluding his message, he noted that more studies need to be conducted to identify the underlying causes for the rise in non-communicable diseases in the Maldives.
