Urban Development Corporation (Urbanco) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Thoddoo Island Council to transform the island into a smart island. The agreement was signed between the Managing Director of Urbanco, Ahmed Athif and the President of the Thoddoo Island Council, Ahmed Karam.
Under the MoU signed, Urbanco will be establishing an open-access network on the island and will provide urban design consultancy to Thoddoo in a range of infrastructure development projects. This includes consultations on the urban design of the harbour area, ferry terminal, cargo warehouse, and public and tourist beaches located on the island.
The decision to provide smart city solutions beyond the greater Male’ region aligns with the rebranding purpose of Urbanco as it extends its portfolio of services to other islands across the Maldives. Thoddoo is the first island Urbanco is providing smart solutions under their vision.
