The Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure has contracted Road Development Corporation (RDC) with the development of the major roads in Ihavandhoo island in Haa Alifu atoll. The contract agreement was signed at the planning ministry between the Director General of the ministry, Fathimath Shana Farooq and the Chief Financial Officer at RDC, Yasir Hassan.
Under this agreement, RDC will be undertaking road development across the main roads on the island, including asphalt-laying works on 6.9 kilometres of road. The scope of the project also extends to the installation of streetlights and a drainage system on the newly-developed roads as well. The contract was awarded to RDC on a design-and-build basis and is scheduled to be completed within 18 months.
The current administration has prioritized infrastructure development in the Maldives with road development featured as an important pledge of the existing government. RDC is responsible for road development projects across the country. This includes the large-scale modernization of Ameenee Magu in the Capital Male’ as well.
