MPL To Clear Goods Promptly During Ramadan

Maldives Ports Limited has announced that it aims to provide clearance for goods promptly during the month of Ramadan. The remarks were made by the Chief Executive Officer of MPL, Shahid Ali at a special press conference held to share the details.

MPL noted that the number of imports grows every year during Ramadan with the company under immense pressure to clear goods in time. The Ramadan of 2022 recorded the highest number of imports post-pandemic with this year’s forecasted imports expected to increase as well. Speaking at the press conference, Shahid Ali remarked that MPL aims to clear goods on a daily basis and a special task force has been assigned for that purpose during the month.

The task force will be responsible for unloading, clearing and returning goods to owners upon arrival and temporary sheds have been set up in Male’ Commercial Harbour and Hulhumale’ Commercial Harbour to store perishable food items. Likewise, preparations have also been made at other busy regional commercial harbours across the country.

To clear and deliver goods as soon as possible, the number of employees assigned to clear goods has also been increased. MPL Employees will work 24 hours a day in clearing goods in two different shifts during Ramadan. The number of vehicles deployed for clearance has been increased with four new Reach Stackers brought in to accelerate operations. With these preparations in effect, the time taken to clear goods, especially perishable goods such as fresh produce is expected to decrease during the month.
