The Regional Director of UNOPS Pays A Courtesy Call On Minister Of State for Foreign Affairs

On Monday, the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) Regional Director, Mr. Sanjay Mathur paid a courtesy call to the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Khaleel. The meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs during the afternoon hours of 20^th March 2023.

During the meeting that followed, the Regional Director expressed his thanks to the State Minister for formalizing the opening of an office of UNOPS in the Maldives. He also noted his appreciation for the host country agreement signed between the UNOPS and the Maldives to this effect. At the meeting, the Regional Director briefed State Minister Khaleel on the various projects ongoing at the moment and informed him of areas of future collaboration.

In his turn, the State Minister recognized and commended the work done by the UNOPS in the Maldives, particularly in the infrastructure support provided to enhance water security and climate change resiliency all over the Maldives. He also acknowledged the close collaboration between the UNOPS and the Government of Maldives to map areas of intervention in the critical areas of health, waste, energy, marine resources and climate change.

Before concluding the meeting, State Minister Khaleel expressed hope that the presence of a UNOPS mission in the Maldives will pave way for the speedy implementation of essential and pertinent developmental projects in the Maldives.
