Yes, It’s Happening, Local Tourist in Greater Male’ Region to Resume Operations After 9 Long Months!

The central focus of the coronavirus outbreak in the Maldives was in the Greater Male’ Area. At the wake of it, specifically on 13th of March, guesthouses and hotels operating in the area was prohibited from accepting reservations. Guesthouses and hotels outside the Greater Male’ Area were permitted to resume operations of 15th of October. After 9 long months of waiting, the authorities have finally given permit for guesthouses and hotels in the Greater Male’ Area to resume operations! The news was delivered by the Minister of Tourism. Dr. Abdulla Mausoom, via a tweet.

All tourists staying at guesthouses and hotel in the Greater Male’ Region will be mandated to present a negative PCR test conducted within 72 hours prior to their departure.

Guesthouses and hotels seeking to resume operations must adhere to a strict set of regulations. In this regard, authorization must be obtained from relevant authorities where as a detailed Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) on how safety measures will be implemented has to be submitted.

The news comes at a period where positive coronavirus cases reported in the Greater Male’ Area has been dropping.

Presently. over 130 guesthouses and hotels are have been given permit to resume operations from all corners of the Maldives.
