Dhiraagu Reaffirms Commitment To Gender Equality In The Digital Era

Dhiraagu commemorated International Women’s Day 2023 with a renewed commitment to gender equality in a digital era. A designated panel discussion was held on 8th March to highlight this commitment with several decision-making panellists from various industries featured in the lineup. A keynote address was given by Minister of Gender, Family and Social Services, Aishath Mohamed Didi on the occasion, where she emphasized the importance of gender inclusion and equality across both digital and non-digital spheres.

The other panellists in attendance include the Minster of Environment, Climate Change and Technology, Aminath Shauna, CEO & MD of Dhiraagu, Ismail Rasheed, Registrar of Companies, Mariyam Visam, Director Legal and Company Secretary of Dhiraagu, Uza. Hazrath Rasheed Hussain and Co-Founder of Women in Tech Maldives, Aiesha Adnan as well as Executive Director of Islanders Education, Adhly Rasheed. The panel discussion was moderated by Assistant Manager Public Relations at Dhiraagu, Jaishan Hameed.

During the session, the panellists discussed the existing gender gap in the digital space and the numerous challenges faced by women on both academic and economic fronts and in the private sector and government. They also exchanged ideas on improving and remedying the situations for women and directed discussions on how technology is now not limited to technical roles alone. On this note, the panellists concurred that technology is a necessity in the contemporary era and integrated into all aspects of life.

The discussions were attended by high-ranking government and private sector invitees and also constituted youth from higher secondary institutions and universities who will be leading the next generation of change in the country. The panellists shared hopeful commitments and messages on how they are contributing to mould the system to ensure gender inclusivity for all and make sure no one gets left behind.

Earlier in the day, an update on the new Gender Action Plan for the company was communicated by Dhiraagu’s CEO and MD, Ismail Rasheed and Director Legal and Company Secretary, Uza. Hazrath Rasheed Hussain at a special staff gathering held at Dhiraagu Head Office. The company announced that it has opened up new technical trainings for all female staff across the board to enhance the evolving technological knowledge and upskill staff to prepare them for this rapidly evolving tech world. Popular courses available from Harvard, IBM and Google are available for staff where certifications and licences are paid by the company.
