BML To Introduce Coding & Engineering Program For Girls To Celebrate International Women’s Day

In light of International Women's Day, the Bank of Maldives (BML) announced that it will be supporting 30 girls to partake in a Coding & Engineering Program. The initiative was designed to promote gender equality, particularly in the field of innovation and technology which is seen as a very male-dominated area.

Under this initiative, the Bank will partner up with ForLoop Coding Academy to provide 30 girls of ages between 12 and 14 years the chance to partake in a month-long program covering interesting topics. Some of the content the girls will learn about include game development with Visual Blocks, developing apps via Python and building Bluetooth-controlled robots. BML will be extending invitations to selected schools in Male’ for students to participate in the program.

This year’s theme for International Women's Day centred around developing the necessary skills for women to engage in digital spaces and increase opportunities to pursue careers in STEM-related fields. Aligning with this theme, it is important to expose younger generations to the world of tech and increase their knowledge in STEM-relevant fields such as technology and engineering.
