Maldives Attends The Opening Plenary Session of the 5th UN Conference on LDC5

Today, the Maldives delegation including the President of the Maldives, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih attended the opening plenary of the 5th United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC5). The once-in-a-decade conference is being held at the Qatar National Convention Centre in the capital of Doha, Qatar.

Low-income nations that face significant structural barriers to sustainable development are named as Least Developed Countries (LDCs) by the United Nations. Currently, there are 46 nations that hold LDC status around the world. The Maldives is the third country to graduate from low-income country status to middle-income country status.

The 5th Conference on the LDC5 strives to expedite sustainable development in pertinent areas globally and optimize the potential of LDCs, enabling them to move forward on the path to prosperity. The plenary session also hosted a celebratory event to observe the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Group of LCDs.
