Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives, Abdulla Shahid attended the panel discussion on ‘Heart of the Matter: LiFE (Lifestyle for environment) for our Common Future’ as a panelist. The event formed part of the 8th edition of the Raisina Dialogue 2023 held from 2nd-4th March 2023.
During his discussion, Minister Shahid shed light on the vulnerability of the Maldives and other Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and emphasized the instrumental role India’s presidency of G20 can play in delivering a voice to vulnerable states. On this note, Minister Shahid commended Prime Minister Modi’s theme for G20 and expressed his gratitude for bringing inclusivity and climate change to the agenda. In his remarks, the Foreign Minister also underscored the importance of access to predictable, adequate and sustainable climate financing for developing countries.
He was joined at the panel by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Trade of Bhutan, Tandi Dorji, G20 Sherpa of India, Amitabh Kant, Vice President, Environment, Policy and Social Initiatives of Apple Inc., USA, Lisa Jackson and CEO of Bisleri, India, Angelo George. The panel was moderated by the CEO of Children’s Investment Fund Foundation, UK, Kate Hampton.
The Raisina Dialogue marks a multilateral conference held in New Delhi, India annually. The conference addresses the most challenging problems faced by the global community. The event is organized by the Observer Research Foundation and the Ministry of External Affairs of India. Minister Shahid is currently on a three-day official visit to India to attend the event.
