AA. Maalhos Harbour Development Project Draws Completion

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) have provided updates on the progress of the harbour development project ongoing at Maalhos island in Alifu Alifu atoll. In a statement made by the company, MTCC states that 75% of project works are finished with work on the design and build currently taking place at the site.

The scope of the project addresses many requirements of the harbour as well as the needs of the residents of the island. Works featured in the project include dredging operations of both the new and existing harbour basin, channel dredging operations and the construction of a breakwater and quay wall. The latter has already been established by MTCC on the Maalhos harbour.

In addition to this, a ramp will be constructed as part of the harbour development project as well. The entire project was awarded to MTCC for a value of MVR 61.34 million. MTCC has been continuously carrying out harbour development projects in various parts of the country, aligning with the government’s pledge to bring equitable development to all islands in the current administration. The development of a modern harbour will also aid in the efforts to realise the Raajje Transport Link (RTL) vision by integrating transportation across the country via high-speed ferry services.
