Government Forms Committee To Provide Land Plots & Flats To Residents of Male’

Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure has announced the formation of the ‘Gedhoruveringe Committee’ which aims to provide land plots and flats to residents of Male’.  The five-member committee is chaired by Akram Kamaluddeen and Anas Abdul Sattar. The remaining three members include Mariyam Nazima, Aishath Rasheeda and Mohamed Arif.

The Gedhoruveringe Committee is tasked to monitor the process of issuing land plots and flats to applicants of the Gedhoruveriya and Binveriyaa schemes and shortlist applicants. The first meeting of the committee took place on February 21, 2023. Under the Gedhoruveriya scheme, the Planning Ministry will be giving out 4000 housing units to residents of Male’ with additional 5000 land plots given under the Binveriyaa scheme. The plots are designated to be given from Hulhumale, Gulhifalhu and Giraavaru.

The housing schemes received immense support from the public with over 20,000 applicants applying for the housing units under the Gedhoruveriya scheme and more than 15,000 applicants applying for land plots under the Binveriyaa scheme. This also aligns with the government’s efforts to resolve the housing crisis in Male’ which is currently facing problems related to congestion and overcrowding.

During the Presidential Address for this year, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih disclosed that the administration will be providing over 5000 land plots in the Greater Male’ region by the end of June and announced that the government intends to increase the number of land plots given to residents. HDC has also begun clearing allocated land plots in Hulhumale’ in preparation for the handover with relevant authorities establishing utility services near the areas.
