Administration Announces Plans To Establish Senior Centres Nationwide

On Thursday, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih announced plans to develop community centres for senior and elderly citizens across the country. He delivered this good news during his address at the ceremony held to confer the National Award for Public Service.

Speaking at the ceremony, the President said that his administration will build senior centres for elderly people and pensioners. These centres will serve as spaces for them to meet and socialize and will be equipped with various services for senior citizens to enjoy. This includes social support and entertainment as well as wellness opportunities. Moreover, the development of such centres will also help increase the participation and contribution of older citizens in societal matters of the nation.

Elaborating further, President Solih remarked that the facility in Male’ would be located on the old ‘Naadhee land’ which is where the previous People’s Majlis was situated.  Many more senior centres are planned to be established in different parts of the country. He stated that the administration’s plans to develop senior centres will ultimately bring a lot of happiness and joy to elderly citizens.
