The current administration reiterated their commitment to developing the sports infrastructure of Maldives by the inauguration of two sports facilities at the Hulhumalé Mini Sports Complex, on Sunday. An official inauguration ceremony was held which was attended by the President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih who was accompanied by the Minister of Youth, Sports & Community Empowerment Mr. Ahmed Mahloof and other senior officials from various sports association.
Speaking at the ceremony, the President stated that he strongly urges young athletes to take full advantage of national sporting facilities and the opportunities provided to them through sports associations and to strive for victory in international level sporting events. In addition to this, he vowed to assist sports associations and the athletes’ parents in their endeavor to facilitate local and international training and learning opportunities. The President also highlights that the inauguration of the National Martial Arts Centre marks the informal formation of a martial arts association in the Maldives.
Following the inauguration ceremony, the President and other official attendees toured the Hulhumale’ Mini Sports Complex.
Table Tennis and Martial Arts are comparatively less popular compared some mainstream sports in Maldives. Hence, it is an ideal time to begin engaging in both these sports whilst striving to represent the country at international sporting tournaments and bring pride home.
