RCC Awarded With The Repair And Completion of 100 Housing Units In M. Kolhufushi

On Tuesday, the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure awarded the contract to carry out the remedial works and completion of the 100 Housing Units in Kollhufushi island in Meemu Atoll. The contract was given to Rasheed Carpentry and Construction Company (RCC) for a project value of MVR 117 million.

The 100 housing units that are being built on the island are funded by the Government’s Public Sector Investment Programme (PSIP) budget. During the signing ceremony held yesterday at the Planning Ministry, the agreement was signed between the Director General of the Housing Department, Ahmed Wishan Naseem and RCC’s Projects Director, Adam Raheem.

Under this agreement, RCC Company is tasked with the completion of the units within 365 days from the date of the agreement signing. Each housing unit will feature three bedrooms, three designated bathrooms, a spacious living area and kitchen space as well as a dining room. Moreover, laundry spaces and storerooms are also outlined in the sketches for the units.

Once this project is completed, it will help in alleviating the housing crisis faced by the residents of Kolhufushi island and elevate their standard and quality of living. Kolhufushi was an island that was severely adversely affected during the 2004 tsunami disaster that struck the Maldives, with many residents losing their homes and property to the natural catastrophe.
