Government Contracts SAS-E Construction For Shore Protection Projects of Two Islands

Last week, the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure contracted SAS-E Construction Pvt Ltd to carry out shore protection projects at two islands of Vaavu atoll. The islands designated for the project are V. Keyodhoo and V. Felidhoo.

The contract agreement was signed on the first of this month at the Planning Ministry. The Director General of the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure represented the ministry during the signing while the Managing Director of SAS-E Construction Pvt Ltd signed on behalf of the company.

Under this agreement, SAS-E Construction Pvt Ltd will construct a 280-metre (35-metre) wind groyne and a gravel breakwater spanning 120-metre on the island of V.Keyodhoo. In addition to this, 20,000 cubic metres of sand beach enrichment will also be facilitated under the project.
As for the island of V. Felidhoo, the scope of the shore protection project includes the establishment of a 165-metre large rock air groyne, a 120-metre large rock groyne and a 131-metre revetment. Moreover, 15,000 cubic metres of sand beach enrichment of the beach is also featured as part of the project.

SAS-E Construction has been awarded the project for MVR 337,931 and is scheduled to be completed within 450 days.
