The Newly Refurbished Olympus Building Re-Opens

On Saturday night, the newly upgraded and revamped Olympus building reopens, following significant modernization and refurbishment of the cinema and theatre. The Olympus building was officially inaugurated by the President, His Excellency Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. The revamping of the building was done under the administration’s policy to create spaces where creative skills and talent of youth can be showcased.

The modernization project was funded partly by the government of Maldives and the ‘High Impact Community Development Project’ from the government of India. Some of the featured renovations include the installation of a retractable motorized screen, a modern digital projector, new surround sound and lighting systems, a control room as well as practice rooms and changing rooms.

Complementing these improvements is a spacious café and ramps that support wheelchair accessibility. A backyard stage is also among the upgrades, allowing small events and concerts to be held on the premises. Along with the President, First Lady Fazna Ahmed, High Commissioner of India to the Maldives, Ministers and entertainment industry stakeholders took part in the reopening function. During the ceremony, many performances were carried out by industry partners.

Olympus was initially incepted in 1959, almost 64 years ago. The objective of the building served the purpose of developing music, motion picture, and performing arts industries.
