At the wake of the coronavirus pandemic in the Maldives, we said a temporary goodbye to our prestigious industry for a duration of nearly four months. Tourist activities resumed on 15th July, with little hope. During the first three months, tourist arrivals were relatively low for a holiday destination of our repute. In October, however, the paced picked up and we saw a significant increase in tourist arrivals. On November, Maldives counted the highest number of tourist arrivals on a single day; 2299 persons on 29th of the month.
Whilst we are passing December, the record for the highest number of tourist arrivals in a single day has been broken. According the Minister of Tourism, Dr. Abdulla Mausoom, over 2900 tourist arrived in Maldives yesterday. He extended his gratitude for those working in the travel and tourism industry for their contribution in making this happen.
Apart from this, yesterday alone, three airlines commenced operations to Maldives being; British Airways, Air Seychelles and Air Astana.
Statistics published by the Ministry of Tourism shows that as of 4th December, a total of 465,749 tourists arrivals have been recorded since the start of the year from which 82,902 persons arrived post border reopening. Maldives targets to hit the 100k mark by the end of December.
